5 Ways to Get an Award-Winning Employer Brand on a Budget
5 Ways to Get an Award-Winning Employer Brand on a Budget Employer branding today means so much more than dogs in the office and team photos on social media. Now more than ever companies are realising the importance of employer branding, however thereâs a common misconception that a broad HR team and big budgets are required to achieve success and truly stand out. Iâm here to tell you this is not the case. You may not have heard of Cox Purtell before. Weâre a boutique, family owned recruitment agency in Sydney, Australia with 25 full-time employees. 2017 has been a great year for us. This month our #MakeTheMove employer branding campaign was shortlisted for Best Recruitment Campaign at the 2017 Australian HR Awards. We are the only small business in this category, alongside McDonaldâs, PwC, Accenture, Telstra, WSP International Convention Centre Sydney. We didnât engage a creative agency. We donât have an HR team. We spent just $5,000AUD to hire 20% of our current workforce. Honestly, we didnât even know if it was going to work. Iâd like to share with you the steps we took to kick-start our largest ever employer branding campaign: 1. Address business needs As an SME recruiter, we identified the need to establish our Employee Value Proposition (EVP) to differentiate ourselves in the competitive recruitment market. Spending a huge amount of money on recruitment fees and with a clear talent shortage in Australia, we wanted to take the opportunity to find new and creative ways to attract experienced recruitment talent from outside the country. In July 2016 we launched our #MakeTheMove campaign to address this talent shortage. The campaign was aimed at attracting recruiters from overseas, showcasing the lifestyle and feeling of working in Sydney for Cox Purtell. When formulating an employer branding strategy, always ensure your goals are clearly linked to your overall business needs so you will have effective, measurable results. 2. Scoping out competitors In our preliminary research, we found that in the process of attracting overseas talent, many Australian recruitment agencies focused on tourist icons such as the Opera House, Harbour Bridge or the beach; but we wanted to address the fact that leaving your friends and family behind to move overseas is a massive, scary, life changing decision. We realised that itâs a huge ask to expect somebody to leave their friends and family behind to come and work for us, so we wanted to honour that with our campaign. By telling honest, raw stories of our own people moving across the world, we would resonate with passive candidates on a deeper level. To inspire action, we needed to make people feel something. Before formulating your creative, first be sure to look at what your similar companies are doing in this space. There is a good chance your direct competitors will be offering similar perks, so try to take a different approach and be a little left of centre. You will be competing for the same candidates, after all. âHow will we ever compete with our larger competitors?â Itâs not always about competing with the big guys. What can you offer potential employees that larger organisations canât? At Cox Purtell, we market the fact that we are a supportive, boutique family-owned agency. At the end of the day we are trying to attract recruiters who want to work in this kind of environment, so candidates who are only looking to work for a global brand wonât be the best fit for our small team anyway. 3. The strategy We created powerful, short stories of our people and their journey through music style videos. Our broad strategy was to not only attract recruiters to our company, but also showcase Australia as a great destination for professionals. Human branding is incredibly powerful we believe our people are our best brand ambassadors. Our strategy was focused on projecting a raw and personal representation of our company culture, as well as life in Sydney. We incorporated honest storytelling, increasing the shareability of our content to maximise impact and reach, with a modest budget. Our #MakeTheMove videos tell the stories of Tracy and Imogen who are both expats living in Australia and working for Cox Purtell. Imogenâs story is centred on her move from Ireland to Sydney. Imogen is in her mid-20âs and her video is focused on her friends, fitness and regular contact with her family back home. Tracyâs story is much more family focused as she is married with a son, Daniel. Tracy moved her family to Australia from Johannesburg, South Africa to provide a better life and opportunities for Daniel. Tracyâs video focuses on her husband and son, as well as friends, but most importantly the life that she has been able to provide for her family. The contrast between Imogen and Tracyâs stories is intentional. We wanted to tell two very different stories to appeal to a wider audience. While both videos feature a lot of shots from the office, we wanted to acknowledge that work is not 100% of anyoneâs life, and all of these combined factors will make up the viewerâs potential new life in Australia. We executed #MakeTheMove without the use of traditional job boards or sourcing methods, instead distributing our YouTube hosted videos throughout all of our social media channels allowed us to raise awareness and collect applications. We successfully hired 4 recruitment consultants in the first round of #MakeTheMove. 4. Keeping it real All videos were shot on an iPhone, many of them self-filmed by Tracy and Imogen, in an effort to keep campaign costs down, but to also capture authenticity and mimic user-generated content so that viewers could imagine themselves in the videos. The nature of our social media targeting meant that we captured mostly passive, previously untapped job seekers who may have never considered living in Sydney. It is vital to ensure that the message you are projecting is in fact a true reflection of your culture and values. If your people arenât living and breathing your brand, it will soon become obvious, and the façade will crumble. 5. Keeping it alive On completion of the first round of the campaign, each of our new recruits self-filmed their journey to Australia which we compiled into our final #MakeTheMove video released in March 2017. Iâd always hoped the final video would have the most impact as it rounded off the series by telling the stories of real people moving Australia as a result of our campaign. We keep #MakeTheMove âaliveâ by continuing to keep the narrative flowing on social media through company posts and by leveraging personal social networks of our staff. As a small team, every employee is regarded as a Cox Purtell brand ambassador. Our purpose-built #MakeTheMove page remains on our website so interested candidates can apply at any time. You may find that a surprising amount of activity and interest still occurs after your initial campaign period. Allow for this by ensuring it is always easy for people to get more information or apply directly well after the âbig pushâ of your campaign period has come to an end. I hope sharing some of these strategies can help you punch above your weight, whether you are just starting your EB journey, or executing a targeted EB/Social Recruitment campaign. Guidance from Childrens Education Funds Inc. (CEFI) How Parents Can Help Children Realize Career Goals
Guidance from Childrens Education Funds Inc. (CEFI) How Parents Can Help Children Realize Career Goals Helping children reach their career goals is never easy. Of course, you want them to have meaningful work that they enjoy, but at the same time, you canât push them into a career they might ultimately dislike. So itâs a matter of encouraging your kids to pursue their goals, while providing useful guidance as to what they can expect from their chosen vocation. Speak to your schoolâs guidance counsellor they may have useful information as to what career your child might be best suited for. One tangible way you as a parent can help is to provide financial support for post-secondary education, if thatâs the educational direction they choose. In Canada, Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs) are recognized as an effective way to set money aside for your childrenâs education. Since 1991, Childrenâs Education Funds Inc. (CEFI), one of Canadaâs leading RESP providers, has helped Canadian families save for post-secondary education for their children. Headquartered in Ontario, CEFI offers three distinct RESP plans: the CET Group Option Plan, the CET Achievers Plan and the CET Self-Initiated Option Plan. These plans are designed to help meet the different needs of various families. Here are a few guidance tips from CEFI to help children reach their education goals: Work on improving your time management skills. Itâs true that we all live busy lives, with many families needing two incomes just to support their growing families. Time management becomes critical, with each family member given a list of chores they have to complete each week. But it doesnât all have to be work-related. The time management calendar can include movie and pizza nights, for instance. Kids need fun for a well-balanced life. Reduce screen time for kids. This is a big deal for children, many of whom spend their lives glued to the cell phone, texting friends, watching movies online, playing video games and scrolling through their various social media accounts. Itâs not an easy habit to break, but if your entire family is spending all their time on the phone or watching television, isnât it time to make a change? So, once youâre at home, try your best to stay away from all screens until you go to bed. Read a book or a magazine or strike up a conversation over dinner. This should be a rule for the entire household, not just the children. Make Time for Family Commitments Juggling a household with various schedules can make things tough, but with the right amount of planning, anything is possible if youâre willing to make it work. One simple solution is to carve out at least one hour each night to dedicate to your family. It can be anything from sitting down to a nice, quiet dinner, going out for ice cream, sitting down for a movie, or lounging around and talking about your day. No matter what you decide to do, itâs a great habit to get into (and one that will bring your family closer together). Plan Your Chores and Errands in Advance Remember, a house doesnât clean itself and bills donât get automatically paid. Chores and errands often swallow up much of the extra time many people have outside of work, school, kids, and other activities. There are times it can feel like youâre spinning your wheels and going nowhere fast. Hereâs how to fix it: Create a plan of attack to make your chores and errands more efficient. For example, you can map out your household chores and split them between each person in the household. Get a calendar or whiteboard and assign a day for each chore to be completed. To make errands more efficient, try automating any bills that are recurring by setting up online payments or plan shopping trips by visiting stores that are close together, rather than having to make separate trips or run all over town. Get up early to face the day Time management is all about planning. Just a few minutes a day first thing in the morning dedicated to effective planning can make the day go by much more easily. Sure, people have different schedules, but if you have a teenager who sleeps in late, he might be motivated to wake up with an advance plan of his or her day. So grab a coffee and spend 20 minutes planning the day for the whole family. You will not only feel refreshed and energized, youâll be ready to tackle the tasks at hand, saving you more time that you can ultimately spend with your family. While the ideas above are simple and nothing new, they can be incredibly effective when put into action. Remember, kids need to develop face-to-face social skills as well as the communications skills that come with e-mails or texts. So make sure you set aside time each day for conversation. You might be surprised to hear that your kids are doing just fine, despite outward appearances to the contrary. Or you might find out through family discussions, that one of your children is struggling in school. Either way, by putting away the screens for a few hours, you have opened up a window for honest communication with your child. And thatâs definitely worth the effort.

CCG Success 02 Hard Work and Impostor Syndrome - Classy Career Girl
CCG Success 02 Hard Work and Impostor Syndrome So, Iâve been getting a lot of requests to talk about imposter syndrome, so that is what Iâm going to do today. If you have ever felt like you are not qualified or not good enough to do the job or to do something scary, maybe youâre a little uncomfortable, and you feel like, who am I to actually do that job? No one is going to think Iâm smart enough. No one is going to think Iâm good enough. Who am I? If this sounds familiar, then you may have had imposter syndrome. CCG Success 02: Hard Work and Impostor Syndrome Subscribe on your favorite platform below: iTunes Google Play Music Stitcher Radio TuneIn iHeartRadio Sound Cloud Weâve all had imposter syndrome. Iâm going to tell you when I had it years ago, back in 2014 when I got invited for my first international speaking event in Brazil. I was scared out of my mind, and I was talking to one of my coaches at the time, and I said, I do not believe Iâm qualified for this. Like who am I to be flown to Brazil to be wined and dined? Theyâre going to do my hair and do my makeup, and Iâm going to speak to thousands of women. Theyâre going to know Iâm an imposter and theyâre going to know Iâm a fake. Theyâre going to know. Theyâre going to be able to tell. I will never forget what my coach told me. She told me that you will always have that in the back of your head. You will always have imposter syndrome. Youâll always feel like youâre not good enough. Itâs never going to go away. You just have to march on and get through it. And I did a couple of weeks later, I flew to Brazil with my family, got onstage, delivered that presentation, and it was an incredible experience. They didnât think I was an imposter. I spoke to 800 women who were so inspired by my talk, and if I had not pushed passed imposter syndrome, I would have never been able to help those women. Even though I was so nervous and had those negative thoughts, I got up there; I did it. And it was an amazing experience for me. So what I also want to tell you is if you can push past feeling like an imposter, and get over that hump and that fear and feeling like a fake, the feeling afterward is incredible. Related Post: Building Recurring Revenue: How I Replaced Income From My Day Job Pushing Past Imposter Syndrome The feeling afterward will motivate you and push you to your next uncomfortable level. I will tell you from my experience in Brazil that it ultimately launched our business because I developed so much more confidence from getting over that scary thing I didnât think I was qualified for. I was able to leap past and everything just changed after that. I just knew if I could speak on stage to thousands of women in Brazil, they were all wearing headphones, they couldnât even understand me, it had to be translated in their language. If I can do that, what else can I do? I can do anything. Right? It really builds your confidence. That is what I want to motivate you and inspire you to do today. If thereâs something you feel like youâre not qualified for, youâre not good enough to do, just try to do it. Go for it, because you will experience such a fantastic feeling afterward and then you will be unstoppable. If I Can Do It, So Can You I hope my story will inspire you. So go out there, do big things. If youâve ever felt like a fake if youâve ever felt like youâre not qualified for something, if youâve had any experiences with imposter syndrome, Iâd love for you to share how you got past it below. Your comments will inspire and motivate others! I recently joined a new mastermind group, and I wonder if I belong there. When you surround yourself with people doing the things you want to do, itâs scary. My mentor has been trying to get me in there for two years, and I always said no I have kids, but part of me also had impostor syndrome. Iâm not good enough to be around those people and in the same room. I may not necessarily be at their level, but I will work my butt off and learn, and being around that group of people will inspire and push me to the next level. Imposter Syndrome Never Goes Away Even today, I am dealing with imposter syndrome. We are launching a rebrand and a new membership site. Who am I to rebrand and bring my mission to a higher level? Who am I to work with this super amazing high-end designer? Spend a ton of money to get a really great logo and website, instead of DIY my logo like I have always done? That is still going on in my head, but if I dont push past, I am never going to have the impact that I want to have. Tips to remember when you feel like an impostor: Through hard work, you can push past imposter syndrome. Often when you see someone successful online, you are not seeing all the late nights and early mornings that go into making it work. Imposter syndrome never goes away; you will always question whether you are good enough. No one is like you and has your strengths and experiences. Everyone who has ever had success has faced imposter syndrome.

Storytelling for Executive Job Search Success - Executive Career Brandâ¢
Storytelling for Executive Job Search Success Seven years ago Quintessential Careers, a leading online career site, innovated Job Action Day to help all job-seekers and workers take stock of their situations, and make plans and/or take action steps to improve their careers. This year, celebrated on November 3rd, Job Action Day is all about empowering job seekers to use storytelling for career success. Dr. Randall Hansen, publisher and CEO of Quintessential Careers, said that storytelling in job search is a powerful tool âBecause people remember stories. Thatâs why job-seekers need a consistent narrative, backed by accomplishment stories.â He believes that many job seekers either present an inconsistent message or bore hiring managers with a litany of facts and figures. On the other hand, when they tell stories to illuminate top contributions and achievements, their unique value is more apparent than competitors who donât employ storytelling. They become more memorable as candidates, as they network and interview for jobs. My contribution to Job Action Day this year is Whatâs Your Career Brand Story? Yet another cool workplace - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
Yet another cool workplace - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog I recently had a chance to visit PEER1 hosting in Southampton in southern England and talk to their CEO Dominic Monkhouse about their culture. PEER1 does hosting for big web sites and have around 120 employees in the UK. They have a very clear vision for creating customer happiness, and have realized that this is only possible when you have happy employees. There are many cool aspects of their culture (heres an excellent video where Dom explains it), but the most visible is how cool their office space is. First of all, its on the docks in Southampton with beautiful views over the water but theyve also gone out of their way to introduce many great-looking, fun and functional elements. Here are my photos from a seeeeeriously cool workplace. This is the lobby and the first thing you see when you enter the office. Its also where they gather all employees for company-wide meetings. The slide. I tried it. It was awesome. A game of pool in progress in the middle of the work day. Great desks. Take up a little more space than the square ones but look a lot cooler. What UK workplace is complete without its own pub. Thats Dom, the CEO, behind the bar. Looking down at the slide. This is the wall where they celebrate their mistakes. Wall art made from old server parts. One of PEER1s values engraved on a swing. Very fitting. Cool wall. Thanks for visiting my blog. If you're new here, you should check out this list of my 10 most popular articles. And if you want more great tips and ideas you should check out our newsletter about happiness at work. Attractive Resume Templates - Get One
Attractive Resume Templates - Get OneAttractive resume templates are essential for almost every job search. Unfortunately, the amount of information required is overwhelming and tedious to manage. Fortunately, there are a lot of easy-to-use, easy-to-use resumes on the internet that make job searching much easier. There is good news, however. These websites are not only easy to use but also provide a great deal of information in their designs to help you with your job hunt. One of the best resumes that I have found on the internet is a free resume. The design of this program does not include all the required information; instead, it focuses on summarizing important areas of expertise and personal qualities. It even includes a picture of you if you want to get a more personal appeal.Another one is based on the Attract Software Program. This program is very easy to use and it has an attractive interface. In addition, you can access lots of extras online as well.A free resume is usually wh at I would recommend for most people. One drawback to this method is that you will need to pay for additional features. For example, there are some that will allow you to upload a picture of yourself and there are a lot of functionality available.Another way to find attractive resume templates is to look at the resources on your local college or university. Many schools have large collections of computer programs and most students have computers at home. If you can get a hold of one of these, you can usually take advantage of the ease of use.Another great resource is a job-seekers group. These groups tend to focus on job listings and they are a great place to learn about online jobs. Now that you know that you can find an attractive free resume, go out and get one. It is not as hard as you may think and it is extremely useful to have when you are job hunting. Enjoy!
